Coloring books are very popular on Amazon and they sell extremely well which is demonstrated by the low best sellers ranks and therefore have the potential to make a lot of money.

Today I’m going to show you how to do this with a free software but keep in mind if you’re using software’s like adobe illustrator or affinity designer the same principles will apply. First I’m going to show you how to create the background of the page and then we are going to overlay an image on that to create our coloring book page.

The software I’m going to be using is called GravitDesigner, this is an online software and it’s free to use. First you need to set the width and height, this is very important because if you look at the page you’re going to create we’ll notice that the image goes from one edge of the page to the other so we need to add on something called bleed now we’re going to be creating an 8.5 by 11 inch book so we need to add bleed because this image will be trimmed by amazon when the book is printed so we need to add 0.125 inches to the top and bottom of the page and 0.125 inches to the one of the vertical edges so this means our book will be 8.625 by 11.250 inches so we’ll go and add that into GravitDesigner.

Next step is to create the background for the page, for background we are going to go and search for an image in Vecteezy, this is not the only option and if you go to google and search for free vector images you will find plenty of sites.

I really like the Vecteezy website because they have a great range of free and premium vector images. There are many images that you can download for free but there is a limit to how many of these you can sell as a commercial project and you do have to put in attribution to Vecteezy in your book so if you’re planning to use their images for your Amazon KDP book I suggest to use their pro version which I think is currently around 9 dollars per month if you pay yearly and that allows you to use them in commercial projects and there is no limit to the number of sales of those projects.

If you search any keyword You can find many result for in this website, make sure that the images you choose would be appropriate for using in coloring books and remember they should all be converted into black and white images in your vector software. Since I’m going to create a Santa Claus on a Christmas background so I’m going to search for Christmas background and then look through the results.

When you choose your favorite image just click on the download button and then drag the SVG into GravitDesigner.

Do the same thing for the Santa Claus, so just go back to Vecteezy and search for Santa Claus and download your favorite image. if you downloaded image is not SVG , you need to convert it into SVG, for that now this is very easily done so just go to google and search eps to SVG and you will get tons of websites I usually use convertio.co it’s quick and really easy to use we’ve chosen to convert an eps file into an SVG file so click on here to locate our file and just click on convert which will take a couple of seconds, when you download the result since it’s SVG you just need to drag to our page.

Since our Santa is not black and white we put a bounding box around our Santa and then change the borders to a thick black line click on color fill and choose black and then where it says points we’re going to change that to 2. Now our image has thick black lines around all the components so we need to get rid of the colors just go over to fill and click on that and just select white.

Your page is ready now, you just need to go down to the layers panel on the left hand side, click on the eye icon to make our background visible again, and there we have our Santa on the background now. For creating our book we need to put this into PowerPoint so what we need is, first save this as a png, for that just click on file menu and from export click on png image and that will have downloaded it to your computer.

Now just open PowerPoint and delete all the existing element and change the size of the page 8.625 by 11.25. Drag your downloaded image to this page and make sure align it correctly. For creating your book you need more pages, you need to follow the same steps to complete your book. As soon as you create enough pages in PowerPoint you need to save or export it into pdf and your book is ready for Amazon KDP.
